This reproduction German field phone battery hides a single D battery inside to opperate a field phone.  If you wanted to change the D holder for some other holder it would be a fairly easy project.  The battery box is made from thick cardboard like originals and is wrapped in black or natural/brown paper like originlas.  The bottom has had the prperty stamp "Behorden- Eigentum" pressed into the card board.  The label is press printed on thin white paper and is very crisp.  Being press printed means that there is no possibility of digital errors that are common in many reproductions.  However some press errors do occure but the labels are inspected before being applied to eliminate any serious defect. Any press errors that do find their way onto a battery are perfectly appropriate for the printiing methode of the time.  The top which is removable to reveal the D battery holder is made from card board and coated with a simulated tar.  The tar like material is soft but not especially tacky and will melt in excessive heat or excessive sunlight. In the top is mounted a small light bulb to replicate the glass vent tube that would have been broken before useing the battery. The brass hardware was machined so that it replicates an original terminal very closely.  The single brass positive terminal is fitted with a short piece of 18 gauge red single strand copper wire.  The black 18 gauge single strand negative wire protrudes through the top at one of the corners.  These run my phones very well and it is nice to replace the battery so easily.  No more little plastic battery holder dangling in your field phone!
